Vevo, the world’s leading music video network released the complete list for its highly anticipated Vevo “DSCVR Artists to Watch” 2023 campaign. Vevo’s DSCVR ATW is showcasing high-quality live performance video content from the class of 2023, with unique performances from each artist, shot exclusively for Vevo.
Vevo’s Artists to Watch content will also see the official launch of a brand-new DSCVR set. The new set was designed to help artists express themselves in new and interesting ways through visually striking elements like new entry points, columns, corridors, archways, and windows. Highlighted from the class of 2023 is Nonso Amadi, a Canada-based singer-songwriter and producer from Nigeria.
Nonso Amadi – “Foreigner” Vevo DSCVR ATW 2023
“The African diaspora has spread the continent’s music around the globe, blurring lines between genres and transcending boundaries. Toronto-based Nigerian artist Nonso Amadi, who bridges the gap between fans of traditional R&B and Afropop, is a perfect example. Setting a precedent in the bubbling Afro-R&B scene, Nonso fuses tantalizing African instrumentation, soothing vocals, introspective songwriting, and memorable melodies. Nonso Amadi’s sound, amplified by the cross-current support of Universal Music Canada, Def Jam Records, and Universal Music Nigeria, makes him impossible to ignore in 2023.” – stated Toney EL, Associate Manager, Music Programming at Vevo
Nonso Amadi began his musical career while studying in Nigeria at Covenant University and then Swansea University in the UK. He transformed into a sonic-globetrotter after his move to Canada – leading him to fuse the soul & rhythm of African music with modern soft textures of R&B. With an affinity for contemporary R&B, Nonso developed a desire to explore North America and Africa in equal parts, powering his music with borderless infusions and intention.

“Being an artist to watch means a lot to me. It’s a chance to showcase to people Afro-R&B and just the way I view music. I’ve always wanted to be a bridge connecting African music to the rest of the world. And this is an opportunity to continue building that bridge with the international audience at VEVO.” – Nonso Amadi stated
With over 100,000+ million streams across various platforms, Nonso Amadi refuses to be the typical straight A-student stereotype. Instead, he stands tall as a constantly evolving, textured lyricist able to translate Alte, Afro-fusion, and hip-hop into his R&B-canvassed approach to storytelling, best represented on his last EP Free (2019), which features Afrobeats heavyweights, Simi and Mr Eazi.
Spontaneously, after the “Free” EP in 2019 and a rising trajectory, Nonso made the conscious decision to step away from social media and paused the release of music — all to take a deeper dive into his artistry and separate from noise and distraction. Unaware of the global pandemic looming, Amadi’s time to cleanse and create was stretched into a longer hiatus. Currently, he is recording his debut album, with the support of Universal Music Canada and an international team. The now 26-year-old, Nonso Amadi is determined to shed even more of his creative skin.
