Vevo DSCVR is an annual series that highlights artists who are shaping the future of music.

One of these artists is Pop Smoke, who got his start in music almost by accident. During studio sessions with various associates in 2018, he secretly began to record his own vocals.

Couched firmly in Brooklyn’s rising drill scene, Smoke combined his booming, smoky vocals with the sonics of Chicago and London drill.

After remixing Sheff G’s iconic “Panic, Pt. 3” for his debut single, “MPR”, Smoke released follow-up single “Welcome to the Party,” produced by U.K. drill’s 808Melo.

Check out the music video for “Welcome To the Party” to further understand why Vevo included Pop Smoke in their DSCVR program.

“I made ‘Welcome to the Party’ in my crib. It took like 30 minutes. I’m just chilling with the homeboys, you know, I just wanted to party. I don’t know how I came across the beat, I was just on YouTube and it just came across and I just clicked it. Real sh*t. It was just on YouTube. Because you know, I listen to a couple of artists. I like Chef, know what I’m saying? I like Sleepy. So as I’m listening to them the beat just came up and I just went crazy. I don’t write at all, to be honest. I just go in there and go crazy.” – Pop Smoke

Since its release, “Welcome To the Party” has racked up millions of streams, becoming Brooklyn drill’s biggest success thus far.
