Fresh from performances with Kylie Minogue, Orchestre National de Jazz at the Montreal Jazz Festival, and with CARRTOONS at the MTL Jazz Festival, Miranda Joan uncages a primal energy on “Kiss A Stranger.”

Fueled by the aching post-break-up urge to connect with and be close to others, Miranda leans into the beauty in the simplicity of a night out and the mystery of meeting someone new. Having written the track in lockdown, she adds: that the message of “Kiss A Stranger” is wrapped up in heartache and hope. I wanted to break free of all that held me back; my previous relationship, my lived reality, my mind; I wanted out, I wanted to kiss a stranger.

‘Kiss A Stranger’ opens with a string arrangement courtesy of Tennessee-born and raised Indian American creative, Shaan Ramaprasad (Chance the Rapper, Reuben James, Mac Ayres, Sam Wills) that speaks to the effortless whimsy of the track’s subject and fantastical nature of the lyrics. Cleverly layered vocals take the place of crowded production to allow Miranda Joan space to vocally soar and glide over the strings.

Furthermore, ‘Kiss a Stranger’ coincides with the announcement of Miranda Joan’s upcoming album, entitled, “Overstimulated,” available on Friday, November 10, 2023.

“It is an album book-ended by songs of affirmation, of rooting, of returning to and loving oneself, intertwined with the messy, chaotic, and interconnected web of my hopes, dreams, imagination, love, and heartache.” – Miranda stated

The forthcoming project features offerings from Sly5thAve, Hailey Niswanger, Danae Greenfield, Jake Sherman, and Ben Williams. Also, the LP includes the singles “Overstimulated,” “I’m Good,” and “Too Much,” which received support from the likes of NPR, Deb Grant & Tom Ravenscroft (BBC 6Music), BBC Focus Beats, Tony Minvielle (Jazz FM), Boba Fatt (Soho Radio), and CBC; as well as playlisting on Spotify’s Fresh Finds.

Simultaneously leaning into and letting go of the excessive and overstimulating, the LP sees Miranda’s developed songwriting and storytelling shift into a space of contemporary jazz and soul, where the instrumental and acoustic meets the electronic.

Miranda spent her formative years growing up on the north shore of Vancouver, filling diaries with emotions and experiences. Her influences range from Bill Withers, Stevie Wonder, and Carole King to Anderson .Paak, Little Dragon, and Robyn draw on both the classic and the contemporary.
