“I wrote this song a while ago while still unsure of who I wanted to be and where I wanted to head musically. Writing this song was probably the first time I felt like I knew who I was within the music I was making.” – Holly Humberstone

Vevo DSCVR is a series that highlights artists who are shaping the future of music. One of these artists is Holly Humberstone, a 20-year-old newcomer who has accumulated over 13-million streams with just two songs alone. Check out her official music video for her “Falling Asleep at the Wheel” single to further understand why Vevo included her in their DSCVR program.

“The track is about losing momentum and feeling like your emotions will slowly destroy the relationship you’re in and you altogether. I think the dark, wonky sonics define who I am musically. Which is why ‘Falling Asleep at the Wheel’ is such a milestone track for me. And it has taught me so much about myself as a musician. We created the song at the house I grew up in, which is very old and falling apart, in the middle of the countryside. You can almost hear the weird sounds of the house within the track. It’s where I feel the most me and love that this is all coming from that one place.” – Holly Humberstone

Holly Humberstone takes inspiration from Damien Rice, Lorde, Bon Iver, Phoebe Bridgers, and HAIM. So far, she has been championed by BBC Introducing. In 2019, she performed on their stage at Glastonbury Festival. Also, her home demo, entitled, “Hit & Run”, has been played on Huw Stephen’s Radio 1 show. Furthermore, Humberstone has performed at Y Not Festival, Barn on the Farm, 2Q Festival, and Neighbourhood. As well as touring with the likes of JC Stewart.
