“Loving you, loving you is hard to do when you don’t want, you don’t want me near. Push me out, but I stay, hoping things will change. Loving you, loving you, so hard to do. You can’t be proud of what you did, I wonder did you ever think. Now, I’m with you instead of him. I’ve lost control, why do you play these twisted games? You just need something you can claim. I missed the signs, I’m so ashamed. But you’re unbothered.” – lyrics

‘Up All Night’ tells an intriguing tale about a young woman who shares a problematic relationship with her significant other. Apparently, he’s a cheater, and she’s sick and tired of being used. Therefore, she bluntly tells her partner, “I just can’t stay, I’m walking on out the door. She’s all yours.”

‘Up All Night’ contains a relatable narrative, ear-pleasing vocals, and tuneful melodies that will resonate well with fans of Bukola, Kat Penkin, and Louise Golbey. The likable tune possesses lush instrumentation flavored with neo-soul and contemporary R&B elements. Furthermore, “Up All Night” follows on the heels of Amethyst’s debut single, entitled, “Can’t Let Go.”

“Am I another destination on your way? Is there something I should know?”

“‘Up All Night’ is about you knowing that your partner is cheating on you and waiting up all night for them to come home – hoping things will change but they never do. Also, finding the courage to leave the situation! ‘Up All Night’ wasn’t actually intended for me. I originally wrote this to a brief for another artist while at university. As soon as I and Strama finished the track, we realized it would suit me better as an artist – so I decided to keep hold of it and I think I definitely made the right choice. I know many people will have been through this storyline and will connect with the song. For me, that’s what makes it so special, because in my head I can just imagine people blasting this song on their speakers and going crazy and I love that.” – Amethyst explained

Amethyst’s musical influences including Ella Fitzgerald, James Brown, Stevie Wonder, Lianne La Havas, Snoh Aalegra, and H.E.R. Amethyst’s sound has been described as modern R&B/neo-soul production, tied together with a luscious and soothing soulful jazz vocal.
