Thea Alien releases a lovely neo-soul single, “Do My Thing”

Thea Alien is an up-and-coming Berlin-based singer-songwriter from Magdeburg, Germany. Not too long ago, she released a lovely neo-soul single, entitled, “Do My Thing.” The song was produced by Calcou (Virgil Abloh, Norma Jean Martine) and mastered by Hans-Philipp Graf (Milky Chance, Purple Disco Machine).

“Monday, Tuesday, every day’s I am feeling tired day of your motivational quotes because you only wanna see me fall. But really, I don’t care at all, you’re just wasting your time. You know what? I think I’ll have pizza tonight, the one with the spicy pepperoni and burrata cheese. All the things I left to run, feeling like an empty drum. Won’t stop me to just do my thing.” – lyrics

‘Do My Thing’ tells an intriguing tale about a young woman who has an “I’m going to take what’s mine” mentality. She wants to do her own thing without anyone telling her how to behave. Later, she admits, “What you say is what you get, oh, not another quote like that. But what I really think is that Karma will hit you right back ‘cause all the things you said to me were lies right from the start.”

‘Do My Thing’ contains a relatable narrative, storytelling raps, and ear-pleasing chorus melodies that will resonate well with Jenevieve, Mahalia, Bby Shea, and ELIZA supporters. The self-released song possesses acoustic piano, springy drums, and synthesized bass-laden instrumentation flavored with neo-soul, indie R&B, and hip-hop elements. Furthermore, if you have ears and love a hook that sticks, you’ll likely conclude that “Do My Thing” is incredibly satisfying. Also, the song follows hot on the heels of Thea Alien’s debut single, “Sweet Lime.”

“No matter what you do, they keep on fooling you.”

“I did not think I would end up rapping, but I totally fell in love with the first lyric fragments and just naturally kept going on from there. DO MY THING is primarily about female empowerment and liberation from constraints. Defying prescribed, conflicting ideas about how to behave as a woman. Not to be belittled, but to believe that you are worth it. Sticking to your own path and owning the right to be yourself. No matter what.” – Thea Alien explained

Thea Alien enjoys the creative hustle and bustle in Berlin. Her texts are about everyday irrelevance and the desire to be able to turn the world upside down. Thea defines her music as a space where R&B meets neo-soul and Pop blends into hip-hop. While creating music, she finds inspiration in the works of Jorja Smith, Anderson .Paak, Solange, and Hiatus Kaiyote.

Thea was raised in an artist family. Between the chaotic daily life of her father being an actor and her mother being an art teacher, she used her free space to explore music and singing as a child. As a teenager, she lived in the United States, where she was able to expand on her creative path as a classically trained singer and self-taught actress. Back in Germany, it took a while before she overcame limitations to start her music project and claim her own musical identity. But it was worth waiting. To date, Thea has performed on iconic stages like Admiralspalast Berlin and worked for other artists as a studio vocalist.
