Sody (Sophie Dyson) is an emerging British singer-songwriter. Not too long ago, she released an uplifting indie-pop tune, entitled, “butterfly,” which promises that there will be light after the dark.

Sody – “butterfly” music video

“One day, I went for a walk in the sticks, sat in a field, read a book, and saw a little white butterfly. I wondered where it had been and the journey it had been on. I felt alone at times during those months. And I had a lot of time to think about my life, my experiences, and my own actions. Also, I took great comfort in that butterfly and its metamorphosis into a beautiful creature. I related my own life to that and wrote the song over Zoom.” – Sody explained

‘butterfly,’ co-written by Lauren Aquilina (Rina Sawayama, Olivia O’Brien, FLETCHER), was created during the lockdown. Sody, like everybody else, spent a lot of time isolated and alone with her thoughts. On one of her fleeting trips into the outside world, she encountered a new friend which sparked the creation of this uplifting song, which reminds listeners that real growth takes time.

‘butterfly’ contains a relatable storyline, pleasing vocals, and tuneful harmonies. Also, the soul-stirring tune possesses vibrant instrumentation flavored with a warm indie-pop aroma. Furthermore, “butterfly” serves as a wonderful presentation of what listeners can expect to hear on Sody’s new EP, entitled, “real growth takes time.” The six-track project finds a soul-searching Sody laying everything on the line.

“Lately, I’ve been falling from heights and I’m terrified.”

“The premise of this EP is about having a heavy heart. Whether that is to do with heartbreak, your mental health, friendships, family, or just your own personal journey. I guess by putting those emotions into these songs, it has enabled me to understand the process of growth and how it takes time. There are no quick fixes to anything. And the struggles I’ve been through have helped shape who I am today in a positive way.” – Sody explained

Sody has been writing songs for as long as she can remember. Always honest, it’s this honesty in her songwriting and impressive vocal range that has helped to grow her deep relationship with her adoring followers. With highlights like “You Don’t Have To Hold It All Together” and “It’s My Fault,” Sody once again shows her ability to translate some of life’s most complex feelings into beautiful songs. Her “real growth takes time” EP follows mildly on the heels of her “is your bedroom ceiling bored?” with Cavetown, and her two-million streamed rework of Elvis’s “fools (can’t help falling in love)” by Foster.
