Cautious Clay releases an emoji-laden music video for his “Erase” single

Cautious Clay (Josh Karpeh) is a Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter and forward-thinking producer from Cleveland, OH. Not too long ago, he released an emoji-laden music video for his “Erase” single.

“Ever since I started playing music, it was always about the feel. There are a lot of things in art that you can learn by practicing or studying but feel not one of them. It’s something you’ve just got to have.” – Cautious Clay

Haoyan of America, Cautious Clay’s longtime collaborator, directed the music video. The audiovisual features embarrassing photos that Cautious Clay found on his socials and phone from past years.

‘Erase’ contains a relatable storyline and ear-welcoming vocals. Also, the song possesses melodic instrumentation flavored with organic instruments, digital programming, and experimental indie elements.

“I used to think about songwriting and production as completely separate. But when I learned how to merge those two things, that’s when I was able to start creating music that really connected with people.” – Cautious Clay

Cautious Clay began his artistic journey at the age of seven when he picked up the classical flute. His studies led him deep into the worlds of blues and jazz. By the time he hit college in Washington, D.C., he’d added a number of other instruments to his repertoire in addition to songwriting and production. Clay cites Burt Bacharach as an idol and credit Stevie Wonder and Quincy Jones as ever-present influences in his artful arrangements.

‘Erase’ will be featured on EA’s upcoming FIFA 20 in-game soundtrack. We recommend adding it to your personal playlist. Also, let us know how you feel about it in the comment section below.
