“Common Sense” is Sophia Gripari’s first release of 2024. She wrote the song in one of her final songwriting sessions while living in L.A. before she moved back to London. The lyrics talk about the naivety of going back to someone you know you shouldn’t give a second chance but also having the self-awareness to know that you’ll do it anyway, despite your common sense and better judgment.
A synth-based, upbeat, and driven production cradles the vocal, disguising the quite sad and emotional lyrics as a fun pop song that you can undoubtedly blast in your car with the windows down. This bittersweet song reflects the nature of the relationship in question, disregarding the risks of starting things up again by being distracted by the good thing you once had.
