MXMS (me and my shadow) is a dark electronic/funeral-pop duo. Not too long ago, they released a fascinating indie-pop tune, entitled, “Paris”.
MXMS – “Paris”
“Walking alone on Rue des Barres, I saw you standing there. I feel my heart beat, you light a cigarette. I’m only here for holiday, you smiled and looked away. ‘Why is Paris, so beautiful tonight?’ He said, ‘Not as beautiful as you’.” – lyrics
‘Paris’ tells the tale of a young woman who meets an attractive gentleman on a gorgeous night in Paris, France.
Their easy-going conversation is enjoyable, therefore, she doesn’t want to depart from his presence. Deep within she feels a strong connection, and can’t see herself being without him.
‘Paris’ contains a relatable storyline, ear-welcoming vocals, and rhythmic instrumentation flavored with electro-pop elements.
MXMS – “Paris”
“‘Paris’ is based on true events. Living with my then French boyfriend and bandmate in a flat in the 19th arrondissement of Paris. I experienced some of the best and worst times of my entire life. We were a modern day French Sid & Nancy that sparkled so bright that the whole thing burned down faster than it started.” – Ariel Levitan
MXMS consists of singer Ariel Levitan and multi-instrumentalist Jeremy Dawson. In 2013, they met in Los Angeles after Ariel moved from New York City.
Harbored feelings and trauma each had hidden away for a lifetime floated to the surface during their studio sessions.
Each story, each moment in their lives they recorded into a lyric, song, and vision. Therefore, their music contains darkness, emotions, and honesty.
