“Mothers and daughters have very complex relationships. The more I share my story, the more I’m met with an empathetic witness; the more my shame is able to dissipate. And so, I hope that I get to be that empathetic witness now. And I’m really enjoying the conversations I’ve been having with women sharing with me about their relationships with their mothers. And maybe encouraging them to show a little more… show a little grace and see maybe their parents as a human being – and who may have hurt them – which is keeping them from being the parent you want them to be.” – Minka Kelly explained

Minka Kelly is known for her roles on Friday Night Lights, Parenthood, and Euphoria. The famed entertainer told GMA that writing her memoir was therapeutic, “It started as a project for myself, for me to unpack and discover all of the ways of my childhood that made me who I am today.”

“I want people to feel seen. I want people to get more comfortable with the idea of grace and forgiveness. Grace is not necessarily for people who you think might deserve it; that’s why it’s called ‘grace.’ I hope people feel more safe to tell the truth. I’m really excited when I meet people who don’t feel like they have to pretend their lives are perfect, and I’m here to tell you that I don’t deserve to be on any pedestal just because I’m on TV. I might be a lot more like you than you might imagine.” – Minka Kelly explained

“I’m certainly not the only one who’s raised by a single mother who struggled with addiction. I’m definitely not the only woman who ever doubted her self-worth,” Minka Kelly vulnerably stated. “I was deep in therapy in the midst of writing this book.” What started as a story between a mother and a daughter, quickly blossomed into something more. “I was able to go, ‘Oh wow!’” Minka exclaimed further. “This was the moment that taught me I am afraid of romantic relationships or men are not to be trusted. And why I run away from even platonic female relationships. I’m scared of the world.”
