Kohla is the project of Rachel Alice Johnson, a Scottish singer-songwriter and musician with a classical background. Not too long ago, she released a wonderful love song, titled, “One and Only.” The track is the fourth single taken from Kohla’s upcoming debut album, “Romance,” available on September 8th, 2023.

‘One and Only’ tells an endearing tale about a young woman who has fallen head-over-heels in love with her significant other. She’s wearing something nice and appealing, and she wants her partner to come close to her. When he gets there, she tells him, “Anything you like, I’ll do it for you.”
‘One and Only’ celebrates the filmic glamour of falling in love. The emotive tune contains cinematic lyrics and a love-based narrative inspired by the legendary jazz and soul of Ella Fitzgerald, Nat King Cole, and Sam Cooke. With live orchestration and contemporary production, “One and Only” is sure to win the hearts of fans of Lana Del Rey and music lovers worldwide.

“Since I was a little girl, I’ve longed for the fantasy of true love; to sway softly under the moonlight with a lover to delicate jazz. ‘One and Only’ was written about a time in my life when I had this, and how it feels to live in a classic, endless romance. Written in waltz timing, it gracefully balances timeless instrumentation with forward-thinking production, enveloped in beautiful, cinematic lyrics.
I was fortunate enough to have live orchestral instrumentation recorded for the track by members of Popgirlz Scotland, bringing out a wonderful, vintage quality (Siobhan Wilson on cello, Louise Cameron on violin, and Onnagh Redmond on bass). Together, with my creative partner Dave Lloyd (Stillhound), we experimented with lush R&B production, capturing the sultriness of Lana Del Rey and Frank Ocean.” – Kohla explained
Kohla is an interdisciplinary artist and a graduate of the Edinburgh College of Art. She is also the founder of Popgirlz Scotland, a support group for women in music, and lectures about feminism at international universities. Kohla will be celebrating her album release with a full-band performance on September 9th at Sneaky Pete’s Edinburgh.
