Kat Penkin releases an appealing music video for her “A Better Time” single

Kat Penkin is a Devon-born, Perth-raised, Brighton-based singer-songwriter from Australia. Not too long ago, she released an appealing music video for her first single with Ultra Records, entitled, “A Better Time.” The lockdown-inspired video embodies Kat’s infectious personality as she reminisces on her life before the Covid pandemic appeared.

Kat Penkin – “A Better Time” music video

“‘A Better Time’ is my lockdown anthem. I wrote it about all the long days that rolled into one, all the time spent inside, all the unsureness, sadness, and anxiety that came with the lockdowns. This song transports me from being trapped inside my house and mind to my favorite places, and I hope it does the same for you.” – Kat Penkin explained

While none of us need reminding of the hellscape of 2020, Kat’s tongue-in-cheek lyricism offers candid, witty insights into what life was like last year. She takes aim at Boris Johnson, bemoans the passing of time, and softly sings about missing her parents. Also, she laments her sexual frustration as she croons, “I miss sunshine, I miss d***, 2020 what a prick.”

‘A Better Time’ contains a relatable narrative, ear-pleasing vocals, and tuneful melodies that will resonate well with fans of Jorja Smith, Mathilda Homer, and Mahalia. The likable tune possesses guitar-laden instrumentation flavored with contemporary and electro-pop elements. Furthermore, “A Better Time” serves as a tasty appetizer to what listeners can expect to hear on Kat Penkin’s upcoming debut EP, entitled, “Checkmate.” The six-track collection showcases Kat’s ability to shapeshift from raw balladry to disco-inspired bangers and back again.
