India Maxey – “Treading Water” single

“Counting down the days, all the days till it went away. Love is a mistake, so they say it all sounds the same. And I, I don’t wanna sink or fall behind, but I can get lost in your eyes. But why did you wanna hold on me so tight? I break down your walls with your lies. I been treading water to get somewhere. And I been treading water ‘cause nights are getting longer. The tide is getting stronger, so I keep treading water.” – lyrics

‘Treading Water’ tells an intriguing tale about a young woman who shares a problematic relationship with her significant other. Apparently, one day, her companion showed up uninvited and told her, “It’s all over!” Since then, she’s been treading water while trying to put their issues to bed or at least keep them at bay. Later, she keeps it real with her companion, “Telling me I’m fake, not to hate, so you feel okay. I think I need space from your grey, I’ma walk away.”

“What about all the problems?”

“If you say that someone is treading water, means that they are in an unsatisfactory situation where they are not progressing or moving forward, just staying in the same place. In my own situation, I was in a relationship barely keeping afloat and it felt like I was doing too many things for other people and not focusing enough on myself. When I came out of my relationship in the middle of covid, I was super lost. Writing this song was one of the best memories I had in lockdown. The song was written in a day and came together so quickly, it was the best therapy I have ever had!” – India Maxey explained

‘Treading Water’ contains a relatable narrative, ear-pleasing vocals, and tuneful melodies that will resonate well with EdithTally Schwenk, and Nova May. The likable tune possesses groovy bass-laden instrumentation bursting with electro-pop flavors and contemporary dance elements. Furthermore, “Treading Water” serves as a tasty appetizer to what listeners can expect to hear from India Maxey in the near future as she continues to release new and exciting music that listeners can dance away their pain to.

“What about all you said?”
