Emei is a rising Chinese American singer-songwriter based in Los Angeles, California. Not too long ago, she released an appealing lyric video for her “Trust Issues” single, produced by Myles Avery and Jordan Lewis.

“Had a dream where they shaved my head. Top model makeover stitch. Heads up from the subconscious, new look still I got upset. Got a doctor on the interweb, say it means I need a safety net. New faces leaving me on read, new cities getting to my head. Calling them incompetent ‘cause I might need control. Recovering perfectionist, I’m learning to let go.” – lyrics

‘Trust Issues’ tells an intriguing tale about an impatient young woman who likes to plan ahead. Apparently, everybody likes to give her advice, telling her how to live her life. Therefore, she admits, “I’ve got trust issues, jumping out the plane without a parachute. Micromanage up until I blow a fuse, don’t like it when they tell me. But I know I do, I’ve got trust issues.”

Growing up with immigrant parents who over-emphasized independence, Emei has always had trouble trusting others. Now, becoming an adult, she has been forced to face the problems that this self-reliance can cause. “Trust Issues” navigates what it feels like to grow up and the realization that there’s no way to rely on yourself through it all.

Emei is known for her witty and cheeky lyrics and charismatic lingering melodies. Even before she started writing, Emei developed incredible stage presence from her experience competing on Chinese Idol at 15. After receiving third place on the show through months of stadium shows, Emei began releasing her own music on Chinese platforms and eventually performing on Dancing with the Stars of China.

When Covid hit, Emei started releasing new music on American platforms, gaining notable media coverage. Since then, her music has been playlisted on New Music Friday, Big on the Internet, Pop Sauce, Young & Free, SALT, and more.
