Elphi – “Get Passed You” single
“Was it all just an illusion, a momentary lapse? So full of pollution, it was never meant to last. Pain may stain the memory of a love that happened fast. But the bond is never broken and my heart replays the past. Though time and space between us may have us drift apart. I don’t believe it’s over, did it ever really start? Was it all just my confusion? But the link, it felt so true. I hang on to this promise, will I ever get past you?” – lyrics
‘Get Passed You’ tells a heartfelt tale about a young woman who is wholeheartedly struggling to get over her ex-partner. Apparently, she still has feelings for her ex and doesn’t believe their once-budding relationship is over. Later, she tells her ex, “You promised that you would dance with me, sipping whiskey down on the sunset bay. I guess there must have been more than one thing you lied about that day.”
‘Get Passed You’ contains a post-breakup narrative, ear-pleasing vocals, and tuneful melodies that will resonate well with fans of Charli XCX, Dua Lipa, and Kim Petras. The hyperactive tune possesses energetic instrumentation flavored with electro-pop and alternative-dancehall elements. Furthermore, “Get Passed You” is the first song released from Elphi’s debut mixtape, entitled, “Chains.”
“A ghost of who I was and a shell of who I am. The memory that we were, I don’t think I can without you.”
“‘Get Passed You’ brings an energetic, dancehall spin to a blue narrative, leaving you feeling reflective but making you want to move. I wanted to set up the themes of messing with time, space, and illusion, which run throughout the rest of the tracks.” – Elphi stated
Not too long ago, Elphi debuted her mixtape at Camden Assembly, which was a dream come true. This year, she plays the 02 Academy Islington in London. Elphi’s likable sound is futuristic yet simultaneously steeped in influence from the pop music of yesterday. Currently, she is working on her first collective body of work with Shady Monk, the executive producer and label head of HyperPop Records. The upcoming project includes collaborations with Recovery Girl, Maxo, and Jonas LR.
“A part of me is in these songs and I cannot wait for the world to hear them.”
