“So, I did a thing. I wrote this fun little upbeat love song for my boyfriend, and it became so much more. It’s an anthem reminding people with chronic diseases that they are adorable. Lovable. Incredible. Worth fighting for.
Ryan was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes when he was only 9 years old. He grew up to be every girl’s dream. He’s hardworking. Handsome. Talented. A problem solver and owner of a wildly successful business. Everyone admires him. But it wasn’t until I recorded this track and let him hear it that he said he felt truly understood. His comments got me digging more deeply into what it is like to grow up with Juvenile Diabetes, otherwise known as Type 1 Diabetes.” – Drew Now explained
‘Type’ contains a relatable narrative and ear-pleasing vocals that will resonate well with fans of Sixpence None the Richer (“Kiss Me”) and Miley Cyrus (“Malibu”). Drew Now sings with passion, “He can’t survive without the insulin; I think I’d die without his freckled skin. It’s an easy in, the requirements of loving him.” The emotive tune possesses guitar-laden instrumentation flavored with indie, neo-soul, and alternative-pop elements.
“Never thought sugar-free was ever going to taste this sweet.”
“The disease adds so much stress to the work of growing up and to the ones closest around. There is never a day off where you can stop worrying and monitoring and just feel like a normal kid. At a time when all you want to do is fit in, diabetes never lets you take your guard down. Ryan became a fighter and a diabetes/wellness advocate. He is the picture of health and fitness. He’s my type in every way and as I was thinking about that fact, I realized he is also my Type 1 warrior in every way, and I started playing with the words. Thus, the name of this song.” – Drew Now explained
‘Type’ is a positive song that celebrates how amazing it feels to love someone while unabashedly talking about the elephant in the room. Also, the song was released weeks before World Juvenile Diabetes Day (November 14, 2022) to honor people fighting Type 1 Diabetes.
“He’s the right one, he’s my Type 1.”
