“‘In My Sleep’ is a powerful ballad that utilizes lush synths and spacious vocals to carve out an emotional journey for the listener. I wrote the song after having a vivid dream about a love interest of mine. The dream was a visceral experience in which her and I were together in a restaurant celebrating the first anniversary of our relationship. I woke up feeling deflated and found myself wishing I could just live inside that dream forever. I wrote ‘In My Sleep’ as a tribute to that sentiment. It’s a song about longing to live in fantasy instead of wading in a colder reality.” – Dempsey Bolton
‘In My Sleep’ tells a heartfelt tale of a young guy who admits that his significant other is perfect. But somehow, loving his companion in real life doesn’t turn out like how he envisioned it in his dream.
“In My Sleep” contains a dreamy narrative, ear-welcoming vocals, and rich harmonies. Also, the likable tune possesses luxurious instrumentation flavored with commercial pop and indie-R&B elements.

Dempsey Bolton is an exciting artist to listen to in 2020. He grew up listening to Otis Redding and Stevie Wonder. Also, the works of painter Mark Rothko and dystopian writer Philip K. Dick attracted his attention.
Currently, Bolton is working with Trey Mills, finishing his debut album, entitled, “Monochrome”. The project deals with themes of love and the media, delving deep into how TV and movies create unrealistic expectations for romantic relationships.
