Barny Fletcher is a rising alternative rapper based in London, England. Not too long ago, he released a brand-new 10-track mixtape, titled, “JETPACK,” released via Guin Records.
The project took Barny back to his humble roots hunting for hidden beats on the internet. The resulting mixtape takes listeners on a high ride. Twisting through smart hip-hop beats, slick R&B melodies, and laser-sharp lyricism, the songs are the latest testament to Barny’s meteoric rise.
Barny Fletcher – “JETPACK” mixtape
“‘JETPACK’ started out as a 3-track pack of songs. Over time, I kept adding to it and eventually stopped myself at 10 before it turned into a double side album. During Covid, studio sessions weren’t really possible, so I found myself writing to beats from the internet, just how I used to when I first started writing. The process was refreshing actually. I’ve worked with Platinum producers and Grammy winners, but nothing compares to writing a hot song to a beat which has been hiding in a corner of the infinite labyrinth, which is the internet. ‘JETPACK’ has energy, and all the songs serve a purpose. Front to back. Listen and enjoy.” – Barny Fletcher explained
Alongside the mixtape release comes the new single, “Weakness.” The breezy track showcases Barny’s impeccable flow and laid-back confidence.

“I wanted a song that captured the feeling of cruising through London at 2 am in the back of an Uber with the windows down. The city turns into a blur and you’re scheming in the back, figuring out how the hell you’re gonna make it. ‘Weakness’ checks that box for me.” – Barny Fletcher explained
Barny Fletcher has been tapped to be featured on the first BBC 1xtra x BBC Introducing collaboration for BBC Introducing LIVE at the legendary Maida Vale Studios in which he’s recorded 16 bars. This will launch as part of BBC Introducing LIVE this year, celebrating 15 years of BBC Introducing.
This fall, Barny released a previous mixtape single, “Backstroke,” which landed on Spotify’s New Music Friday and has already racked up 350K Spotify plays since its August release. ‘Intergirlactic’ followed, generating support from tastemakers and major media outlets.

Barny Fletcher has seen widespread praise since his debut. So far, he has garnered support from BBC’s Radio 1, Australia’s Triple J, and features everywhere from collaboration on the latest DJ Shadow’s album, a Euro 2020 fashion design campaign with Umbro, as well as inclusion on the soundtrack for Michaela Coel’s HBO series, I May Destroy You.
A budding pop prodigy with undeniable charisma, Barny first debuted in 2019 with singles Christ Flow and Blu Skyes. Since then, he has received support from BBC Radio 1 on their Introducing Playlist leading to a prestigious performance slot at the BBC Introducing Stage at Radio 1 Big Weekend. Also, Barny has played a sold-out London headline show as well as festival appearances at Lollapalooza Paris, Reading & Leeds, and The Great Escape.
Growing up in a small Somerset, UK village to a photographer father, filmmaker mother, and very little else to occupy his hyperactive nature other than an eclectic record collection, Barny delved into the catalogs of artists such as The Kinks, Eminem, Bob Dylan, and Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band, a chaotic fusion that still influences him today.
Getting his start uploading weekly tracks to SoundCloud, Barny’s sound has evolved into a kaleidoscopic mix of hip-hop, R&B, pop, and disco, alongside a distinct lyrical take on the absurdity of the everyday. He has landed on Spotify’s NMF UK playlist 7 times. Also, he has landed Front Left, Our Generation, and Free Form Spotify placements, as well as on Apple Music’s New Music Daily.
Outside of music, Barny enjoys developing his fashion brand Verlimont, a passion project for which he enjoys sourcing quality materials and even hand-applying finishing touches himself.
