“You say you living it up, you say you showing me off. Veuve Clicquot at the Artisan, Martinis at the Ritz, and Bellinis at the Grand Friendly with the Glitterati. Ain’t got time for the things they say. This fever gonna burn me up ‘cause I really rather take you home. Really want you, get you on your own. No, I don’t need no diamond rings or pearls, just ain’t that kinda girl. No, I just wanna lose myself in your arms, boy.” – lyrics

‘Ain’t That Kinda Girl’ tells an intriguing tale about a young woman who doesn’t need a man’s money for support. Also, she doesn’t need him to buy her furs, fast cars, or high-end fashion outfits. What she needs is some meaningful time and attention from her companion.

‘Ain’t That Kinda Girl’ is a commentary on outdated male ideas about what women want. The song is the perfect kickback to men who think they can buy women’s affection. Furthermore, “Ain’t That Kinda Girl” serves as a taste of what listeners can expect to hear on Wallis’ upcoming debut album, which is scheduled for release in Autumn 2023.

“You can’t please me, Imma dip, Houdini.”

“I wrote the track as a mix of Pop and R&B and I love the way it moves from a cool moody verse into a soul/funk-inspired chorus. I wanted a track that had a really catchy hook while still keeping space for runs and great backing parts. The song is a kickback against outdated ideas about what women really want and I love how Destiny Lotus doubles down on this theme during her mid-8 feature with “I never needed his money to endorse me, believe me.” The chorus line “I don’t need no diamond rings or pearls, just ain’t that kinda girl’ is my answer to all men who think they can buy a woman’s affection. I’m gonna need more than that!” – Wallis explained

Wallis has been singing since the age of five. By 13, her voice had already won her a place at the prestigious Sylvia Young Theatre School in London. Wallis continued her musical training at the Brit School before starting her music career in 2020. Her debut single “Never Gonna Be” was featured on Spotify’s popular releases before being picked for national airplay on BBC Radio 1. To date, Wallis has released seven singles and had five BBC Introducing singles of the week, regular BBC radio airtime, and was shortlisted for the Live Lounge competition.
