RIIKI is an up-and-coming 20-year-old singer-songwriter from Wellington, New Zealand. Not too long ago, she released a music video for her “High Heights” single.

“There’s a quirky and very light-hearted mood to the song. Because the song is actually about quite an odd and funny story to do with a seagull which was getting bullied by other seagulls because I fed it a chip. I’ve never gained inspiration from something as weird as observing seagulls before, but I was inspired to write a track about being belittled by someone but proving you are a bigger person than them. I guess I used the scenario as a good metaphor. You wouldn’t have a clue at all unless I told the story.” – RIIKI
‘High Heights’ contains a relatable storyline, ear-welcoming vocals, and tuneful melodies. Also, the likable tune possesses luxurious instrumentation scented with a vibrant alternative-pop aroma.
The shiny tune was recorded in Wellington and Auckland, where RIIKI worked with producer Simon Gooding (Ed Sheeran, P!nk, Dua Lipa, Migos).
“I’m not confined just to music and it isn’t just ‘music’, it is a full creative project. I want to be able to express myself and my message through dance, art, music, poetry, photography, and video. Intertwining and tangling them all up together in a lil ball. And then I can smash it all on to a canvas and create something awesome and hopefully meaningful to others.” – RIIKI
RIIKI is a name you should remember and an exciting new artist to watch. Her musical influences include Yellow Days, James Blake, Jeff Buckley, Sampha, Mermaidens, Toro y moi, Steve Lacy, and Jorja Smith to name a few. Also, she hopes to inspire and relate to others experiencing the same realms of young teen/adulthood.
