Olivia Dean – “What Am I Gonna Do On Sundays?” (Lyric Video)
“What am I gonna do on Sundays? You’d throw the curtain wide and I wouldn’t mind. A sky of only clouds, sheltering in that subway. We proper painful laugh and see how long we can make a tenner last. I’m gonna miss you having something to say about everyone. Ruining my jokes, coming up with a better one. Leaving all this might be easier said than done. But it’s a fight that you coulda won. You can keep the rain but let me have the Sundays. That’s something I can’t bare to lose, no need to pretend. That all we had was sundays, we had our share of Mondays too.” — lyrics
‘What Am I Gonna Do On Sundays?’ tells a heartfelt tale about an exhausted young woman who is traveling by herself on a train. Apparently, she’s experiencing the worst day of her life and there’s no one around who she can talk to. Her unhappiness stems from an individual who clearly doesn’t see the value in holding on to their relationship. Therefore, she had to walk away from this person who she cares deeply about. Also, she thought this person would’ve fought hard to keep their relationship intact, but she was wrong. Later, she admits that the fight could’ve been easily won.
‘What Am I Gonna Do On Sundays?’ contains a relationship-based narrative, ear-welcoming vocals, and tuneful melodies that are sure to pull on your heartstring. Also, the gorgeous tune possesses moody instrumentation beautifully flavored with a warm sentimental pop aroma. Furthermore, ‘What Am I Gonna Do On Sundays?’ serves as a marvelous presentation of what listeners can expect to hear on Olivia Dean’s four-track EP, entitled, “What Am I Gonna Do On Sundays?“
“I did what I had to do. I thought you’d fight a little harder for me.”
“So far I’ve wanted my music to feel empowering and assured. But I wrote the final single ‘What Am I Gonna Do On Sundays?’ at a time when I wasn’t feeling so positive. I think it’s an important and beautiful thing to be both soft and strong. For sure the biggest thing I’ve learned from this strange year is that being alone can be really beautiful. And although it feels daunting, there is so much peace that comes from choosing yourself and starting again.”
