Discover the Euphoric Magic of Night Tapes’ “Projections” Single

Night Tapes (@nighttapesmusic) is a DIY dream pop trio from London, England. Not too long ago, they released a dazzling new disco-pop single, “projections,” via Nettwerk Music Group.

“Sometimes you find in yourself, what you seek in others. Fascination always includes a projection, but it could be just a word to undermine other people’s emotional realities. If you’re in love with someone and you call it a projection, then you just take all the fun out of it as you’re undermining the feeling of participating in the relationship.” – Iiris spoke about the track’s themes of perception and authenticity

“projections” is an upbeat, disco-tempo pop tune set against a backdrop of ‘80s synth textures. Helmed by a quintessentially tight rhythm section, lead singer Iiris Vesik’s acrobatic melodies soar above, “dancing with projections” on an unforgettable chorus.

“projections” will be featured on Night Tapes’ forthcoming EP, “assisted memories,” dropping on June 7th, 2024. The song is also the follow-up to the previously released single, “every day is a game,” continuing Night Tapes’ hot streak after the stunning early 2024 single “loner,” plus a 2023 that included the release of their third EP “Perfect Kindness,” and a tour of the UK and Europe spanning Vienna, London, Bristol, Brighton, Manchester, Copenhagen, Paris, and Tallinn. The band also announced a spread of new UK dates for September 2024. Buy tickets at Ticketmaster.com to see Night Tapes perform.

Night Tapes – “drifting” music video

“We wrote this song over a few weeks in the middle of summer. It contains a paradox and to be honest we’re still in the process of discovering the nuances of meaning in it. I think that sometimes drifting can take you where you need to be, other times it can take you to the open sea where your feet can’t touch the ground anymore. We hope you enjoy this existentialist pop song – big up Maurice Merleau-Ponty.” – Night Tapes explained

2024 is shaping up to be the trio’s biggest year yet, with their Spotify following growing by over 50% to nearly 30k, over two million streams for late 2023 single “drifting” as well as support from BBC Radio 1, and monthly listeners peaking at over half a million with 1.7m streams.

Night Tapes started as evening jams between housemates Max Doohan, Sam Richards, and Iiris Vesik. Nighttime London, genre-blending, multi-fidelity recordings, and honest reflection contribute to their atmospheric soundscapes that ultimately make for fresh and envelope-pushing dream pop. The trio takes inspiration from their lived experience in the world that they can see and touch, as well as the less tangible spiritual and metaphysical realm.

To date, Night Tapes has released three EPs: Dream Forever In Glorious Stereo, Download Spirit, and Perfect Kindness, which was released to acclaim via Nettwerk Music Group last summer. Their debut single “Forever” has reached over seven million plays.
