‘Happy’ contains a relatable storyline and ear-pleasing vocals that will resonate well with fans of Marvin Gaye (“Sunshine”), Laura Rain, and Brian Scartocci. The Motown-inspired tune possesses thudding drums, groovy bass, and horn-laden instrumentation flavored with a jazzy retro-soul vibration. Furthermore, “Happy” is an old-school homage to a genre that has always intrigued and inspired Ki!. Also, the song is featured on his debut album, entitled, “The Boy From Haeundae Beach.” The project contains 20 highly diverse tracks, some instrumentals, and some featuring guest vocalists.

Many of the tunes on Ki’s debut album serve as homages to some of his favorite artists such as Fela Kuti, Sharon Jones, George Harrison, J Dilla, Link Wray, and Elizabeth Cotton. The variety of genres, styles, and sounds on the album is all over the map, drawing inspiration from different periods and from all over the world. Processing and digesting it all, Ki! is producing music that feels truly singular and authentic, but has a through-line that only really communicates itself when you look at the big picture.
Ki! is the newest signing on Crunchy Frog. Aside from his solo productions, he’s also a musician, performing with Sterling Roswell of Spaceman 3, The Telescopes, and Death Valley Sleepers. Also, Ki! is the producer for Rufus Miller (Sting’s guitarist), Dør nr. 13, and D/troit.
