“‘Bird in a cage’ is, to put it simply, a song about the lockdown. It’s painfully relatable but feels so personal. And I think it’s something I needed to get out of my system to comprehend how much life has changed for everyone since coronavirus. It’s got this kind of ironic because I’m complaining about my birthday being on a zoom call while people are literally dying. But I think it just shows the reality of the situation and how differently it’s impacted everyone.” – Kayla Grace explained

Kayla Grace left her hometown of Watford to study music at ACM Guildford. Over the past 12 months, the 19-year-old singer has shared the most discombobulated university experience alongside millions of other teenagers.

‘Bird In a Cage’ laments Grace’s gloomy experience. The relatable and heartfelt outpouring shares frustration, despair, and an overwhelming sense of helplessness that people of all ages have felt since the first lockdowns in 2020. Also, on a brighter note, “Bird In a Cage” serves as a fantastic introduction of what listeners can expect to hear from Kayla Grace in the near future.

“My last teenage years have been stolen from me.”

“I’m in my final year of university and I’ve not really left my bedroom all year. But I’m still putting this pressure on myself to be grateful that I’m even alive and healthy. I think a lot of people will resonate with the feeling of being isolated and trapped like a bird in a cage. And all I’m hoping is that the song will help them realize they’re not truly alone. We’re all in this situation together and one day it’ll be okay again.” – Kayla Grace explained

‘Bird in a Cage’ finds Kayla Grace singing about the frustration and loss of living through lockdown as a teenager. The therapeutic tune contains a beautiful, unforgettable reminder of difficult times. Furthermore, “Bird in a Cage” possesses guitar-driven instrumentation flavored with a sentimental alternative-pop aroma. Plus, Grace’s dreamy tone cuts through the noise with a comforting familiarity, reminiscent of Lana Del Rey, Holly Humberstone, and Beabadoobee.
