JOIE GREY – “Rolling Thunder (Under the Influence)”
“This is the first song I wrote with a co-writer. I wrote this song when I was out in Los Angeles over the summer with Sam Hook. It’s part of my mission to release 24 songs in 2024. The songwriting process was dope, Sam has a studio in his house that overlooks Los Angeles. I played some of my tracks and Sam and I went back and forth on the lyrics and melody. The process was dope.” – JOIE GREY explained
Love has no escape, and “Rolling Thunder (Under the Influence)” finds JOIE GREY heavily under the influence of his significant other’s love. The sensual tune finds him singing confidently to his companion, “Get ready for the ride, we gon’ take a trip. You can bring a friend, y’all could stroke my ego. I might hit ‘em both in a row like free throws.” Later, JOIE admits, “I say, I will never drink again, every time I do I end up spending the night with you.”
“Rolling Thunder (Under the Influence)” is an under-the-cover on-a-cold winter night type of song with replay value. The warm weathered drums and the sonic assortment of sounds enhance the nature of the placid mood provided by JOIE GREY’s passionate vocals. Furthermore, “Rolling Thunder (Under the Influence)” is the title track of JOIE GREY’s latest EP.
“You don’t need no clothes, just a passport.”
JOIE GREY learned to play several instruments under his grandmother’s and mother’s instruction, both professional musicians. He also became an accomplished dancer by imitating the moves of Michael Jackson and eventually studying modern professionals in Hip-Hop and Contemporary dance. Under the influence of Kanye West and Frank Ocean, Green teamed up with a new team and new producers to forge a newer, different sound and image.
