“Messages” is a declaration of self-worth in which Dido Wilson rejects sub-standard attempts to gain her affection, instead seeking to establish more meaningful connections. The song radiates a sense of whimsical self-discovery through its effervescent instrumentation, combined with Dido’s soothing vocal tone. There is a sense of playfulness rather than spite in Dido’s words when she dismisses her would-be love interest’s uninspired communications, singing “You’re always asking how I am, always sending stupid texts. I don’t ever read your messages, why would I waste my breath?’

Speaking on the inspiration behind the track, Dido stated, “I wrote ‘Messages’ after a hinge date that flopped. I was single and getting my confidence back after being in a long relationship. It was the first time I realized I could have fun while also figuring out my wants and needs. I learned what standards I wanted to hold myself to, as well as the people I dated. So, I’m no longer accepting boring, stupid messages that take up my time.”

The release of “Messages” introduces the world to an artist with boundless potential, keen to facilitate real human connection through vulnerable songwriting, stellar musicianship, and a faultless voice. With the UK R&B and neo-soul scene proving to be more bountiful than ever, Dido Wilson arrives right on time for all to witness her bloom

Dido Wilson is a new, young, and exciting voice in the Soul and R&B space who draws inspiration from her life, surroundings, and musical heroes including Amy Winehouse and Corrine Bailey Rae. Growing up as one of 6 siblings who were all creative in their own right, Dido says that she was drawn to singing from an early age and witnessing live performances from the likes of Jessie J inspired her to pursue a music career.

Self-taught on the guitar and piano, Dido went on to attend the BRIT School from year 10, further immersing herself in the creative arts and building a network of like-minded aspiring artists. Dido’s songs carry a broad relatability via her honest songwriting, in which she candidly describes the highs and lows of a young woman navigating life and love in London. Musically, Dido’s sound bears a remarkable polish, especially for someone so early in their career, with jazz, funk, and pop influences seamlessly interwoven into each song’s DNA.

Already catching the attention of industry tastemakers, in June 2023 Dido performed at a Mahalia Presents event (a night of live music curated and hosted by UK R&B star Mahalia herself), which proved to be a defining moment in her burgeoning career. Additionally, Dido has performed at several Sofar Sounds gigs, developing her live performance skills and garnering a grassroots fanbase along the way.

Sharing her hopes for what her upcoming music will achieve, Dido stated, “All I want for my audience to take away from my music is for them to feel heard. I want them to listen to my music and say ‘I’ve felt that’ or ‘That’s exactly what I’m feeling/needed to hear.’ I would love for my music to connect people and be the soundtrack to whatever they are going through. No one can say their feelings are invalid, so I hope these songs give the space for my audience to own that!”
