ASHS unveils a sassy post-breakup tune, entitled, “My Ex”

ASHS is the alias of Juno award-nominated, multi-platinum selling singer-songwriter Alyssa Reid from Ontario, Canada. Not too long ago, she released a sassy post-breakup tune, entitled, “My Ex”, via Wax Records/Republic Records/Polydor Records/Universal Music Canada.

“Maybe, I’m crazy for missing you. I’ve been sleeping in your sweater. If I’m telling the truth, I know it’s crazy. It’s a quarter to two, why am I dialing your number. What the f**k am I doing? Hang up, we don’t even hang much. You don’t speak my language. Hang up, we don’t even hang much. You got too much baggage.” – lyrics

‘My Ex’ finds ASHS continuing her trend of unforgiving songs directed at her exes. The explorative tune speaks about the all-too-well-known temporary moments of weakness that creep up on us—from questioning breakups to missing our exes. Only to be brought back down to earth with the realization of why it’s not a good idea to get back with your ex.

“For most people, time heals all wounds. For me, songwriting does. Gone are the days where I would sit and write sad songs about how he broke my heart. Turns out, life went on and I’m fine. I found thoughts of him creeping back into my head recently and it took me a minute to understand what emotion it was triggering. Did I miss him? I thought I did so I started writing. But as the song started to develop, it was blatantly clear to me how many red flags I missed when I was caught up in the rush of it. Turns out he wasn’t so special after all. Wasted a few years, but at least I got this song out of it.” – ASHS stated

ASHS emerged on the scene in 2018, releasing two EPs through a veiled and anonymous moniker. ASHS was created as an exploration into a new sonic territory. Over the past few years, the 26-year-old artist has been honing her craft; becoming the go-to songwriter for artists like bülow (“Not A Love Song”) and Virginia to Vegas (“Selfish”). Now, she’s recasting her signature smoky vocals to form the foundation of her most ambitious project to date.

“There’s like a hundred f**king reasons you’re my ex, oh. Got me feeling sorry for your next, hoe. I don’t even want you for the sex, oh. Wasn’t even hard to let you go, oh.” – lyrics
