vi0let is an emerging singer-songwriter based between London and Brighton, England. Not too long ago, she released an appealing lyric video for her “Audience” single, produced by James Berkeley.

vi0let – “Audience” lyric video

“Been feeling braver these days, sing you a song listen in. Got a lot on my mind I wanna say, been a minute since I complained. This just may be our last time, fool me once, but don’t fool me twice. Don’t need to show me how you lie, I’ve learned a lot being the child. Any time any place, you want me there. On the way, but I feel like you don’t care.” – lyrics

‘Audience’ translates to a storyline of realizing your true meaning for someone. Having to deal with someone in your life that isn’t good for you but feeling the pressure to uphold their expectations all while they use you as an emotional crutch.

vi0let uses the term audience as a metaphor for having to play the role of someone’s personal cheerleader. She describes how everything they do for you or others comes with the expectation of praise and admiration. Furthermore, “Audience” will be featured on vi0let’s upcoming debut EP, entitled, “Believe Me When I Cry,” due September 2022.

“It’s almost like they don’t really see you for you. They just want your reaction to feeling better about themselves. Feeling so replaceable yet so tied down can feel really confusing and writing this song, using all these metaphors to describe the polar opposite behaviors of this person, really helped me understand my role in this situation. It’s actually not about a romantic relationship. It describes multiple friendships and family members, which can sometimes be even more painful to deal with. I didn’t want this track to be a sad one, I felt quite powerful writing it when I finally realized the role I was playing for other people. By the end of the song, I say ‘Seems like it’s easier when I go, blocking out the life you never tried so I pack up my bags maybe you’ll grow.’ Which is my way of coming to terms that it’s sometimes better to remove yourself and wish them the best.” — vi0let explained

vi0let has always had a huge passion for singing as well as producing her own vocals and harmonies. Born in Germany, she spent her early years in Ireland singing, performing, and immersing herself in Irish culture—her father’s country of origin. When she returned to Germany, violet was ready to showcase her immense potential. She spent almost four years in the UK, where she writes, records, and performs her own music. Also, she uses her songs as an open diary to help people relate to their own experiences, touching on topics such as relationships, feminism, self-love, and self-empowerment.
