“Here we are, it’s a moving target. Feels like it’s falling, ooh, like the rain over drowning lands. Working late, I lost my hunger and my grandfather is gone like the wind that hums the song he sang. Ooh, we don’t know, we don’t know where it’s all gonna go. Don’t tell me that it’ll go back to how it was, don’t tell me that we won’t sit down and count the cost. Don’t tell me that we won’t look at all we’ve got right here – where we are.” – lyrics

‘Where We Are’ contains a relatable narrative, pleasing vocals, and tuneful melodies that will resonate well with fans of Karen Dalton, Joni Mitchell, and Fleetwood Mac. The likable tune possesses guitar-laden instrumentation flavored with a warm indie-folk vibration. Furthermore, “Where We Are” serves as a tasty appetizer to what listeners can expect to hear on Val Thomas’s upcoming EP, entitled, “Hymnal.”

“I can’t relate to what I thought I was. And what I thought we made can get swept out by the rain.”

“‘Where We Are’ is an anthem of resilience and coming together in the face of adversity. It’s a song about these current times. I wrote it while working at the hospital during the onset of Covid. So much was changing, so fast for so many people. Writing, then singing this song became a way to soothe myself amidst agitation and grievances. When I would get home from work, I would sing it to myself to catch my breath in a situation that felt increasingly suffocating. This song is about connecting to a shared experience of loss and to a different kind of hope.” – Val Thomas explained

Val Thomas’s contemplative music explores the raw subjects of grief and hope – draped in soft melodies and honest lyrics.
