Listen to “See Me Run”: The Bankes Brothers’ Captivating New Single

The Bankes Brothers is a band hailing from Victoria, BC. Not too long ago, they released a captivating new alternative single, “See Me Run,” as a precursor to their upcoming debut EP, “In Waves,” available on March 1st, 2024. “See Me Run” is a reflective and sentimental song that captivates the quartet’s comradeship, and it is a promising taste of the band’s authentic, Country-infused sound.

“This one is sentimental to our band because it was the first song ever written and recorded. We made a demo the same week as our first gig, so essentially, this was the song that solidified in our minds that we are, in fact, a band.” – Morgan Bankes stated

Look no further than “See Me Run” as evidence of The Bankes Brothers’ undeniable musical chemistry, with the song beginning to take shape three days after their first gig and only ten days after their conception. Immediately after the show, guitarist Carson Cleaver joked with Morgan and Nelson Bankes about needing to write five songs before the end of the week. Feeling up to the task, the brothers delivered, and ultimately, the track that stood out among these was “See Me Run,” making the fifth single off their debut EP the most reflective song in the collection, a testament to their formation.

The Bankes Brothers are on a quest to lighten up the indie rock scene and ignite audiences everywhere. The Victoria, BC quartet consisting of brothers Nelson and Morgan Bankes on vocals and guitar (respectively), lead guitarist Carson Cleaver, and drummer Gray Oxley formed in a pool hall one Friday night in 2017. They played their first gig a week later, leaving the former high school classmates amazed by their musical compatibility.

Playing every gig available, The Bankes Brothers continued to discover their sound until the pandemic halted all progress, leaving the four-piece to pick things up when the world reopened with a refined sense of direction and purpose. The result is the debut EP “In Waves” – a six-track shot of dopamine spilling over with irresistibly catchy melodies, exhilarating vocals, and joyous indie-rock instrumentation. This culmination of the band’s wide-ranging influences (from Elvis to The Strokes, Paul Simon to The Pixies) comes together in a way that defies sonic parallels yet remains welcomingly familiar.
