sixten Unveils their Highly Anticipated EP, “Misemotional”

sixten (@we.sixten formerly Strandels) is a sibling duo from Sweden. Not too long ago, they released their highly anticipated second EP, “Misemotional,” along with a new indie pop single, “Atlantic,” written by Tova and Sigge together with Johan Lindbrandt (who has previously worked with Veronica Maggio and Thomas Stenström).

In “Atlantic,” sixten conveys a sense of longing and loss through evocative lyrics such as “All the leaves in the city you live, I wonder if they’re still green” and “All of the Atlantic between.” The song, built on an intense feeling of distance and reflection, gives listeners a glimpse into the inner thoughts of someone struggling with unresolved emotions and unrequited love. The lyrics are likened to the sensation of getting up too fast – a brief, dizzying experience that quickly transitions into deeper reflection. With a combination of nostalgic melody and modern pop elements, sixten creates a track that feels both familiar and innovative, capturing the emotional complexity that permeates the EP.

“Misemotional” offers a nostalgic journey through ‘90s-inspired country pop, allowing listeners to experience an emotional rollercoaster filled with joy, sorrow, hope, and confusion. The title reflects the conflicting emotions the duo has grappled with since the success of their 2019 hit “Slip” – an experience that led to a name change and reignited their musical passion.

sixten explained, “When tragedy strikes or love hits you hard, many emotions can surge. Sometimes you’re unsure whether to allow yourself to feel intensely and express it, or to tone yourself down and bottle up your emotions. The songs on the EP reflect both extremes – one moment, you’re almost burning up, and the next, you’re frozen.”

“Misemotional” is not only a testament to the talents of the sibling duo but also the result of close collaboration with some of Sweden’s most acclaimed and award-winning songwriters and producers.

“Misemotional” showcases sixten’s ability to balance between contrasting emotional states and create music that speaks to the heart, with “Atlantic” as the emotional centerpiece – a track that resonates deeply and lingers long after the final note fades.

sixten (formerly Strandels) has placed music at the forefront of their entire career. With a love for the craft that is unusual in today’s music scene, they have allowed their musical expression to mature at its own pace – while also making room for detours when the songs have called for it. Perhaps that’s why their music sounds like future classics with a twist.

sixten makes music that is both confident and sophisticated while at the same time remaining unpretentious. With timeless melodies and heartfelt lyrics, they explore subjects like identity, love, and the ups and downs of life, weaving them together with well-crafted arrangements of acoustic guitars, piano, and harmonies. Their sound is pleasant and expressive but entirely lacks a need for attention. Therefore, sixten could indeed be one of Sweden’s best-kept pop secrets.
