Get Mesmerized by Céline Dessberg’s Enchanting “Selenge” Single

Céline Dessberg (@celinedessberg) is a singer, songwriter, and harpist of mixed French and Mongolian heritage. Not too long ago, she released an official music video for her enchanting instrumental single, “Selenge,” via That’s Love Records.

“Selenge” finds Céline Dessberg’s yatga (traditional Mongolian harp) taking the spotlight, weaving haunting melodies over a foundation of groovy neo-soul instrumentation. The combination of soft guitar and jazzy drums creates an ethereal atmosphere that transports listeners to a world of sacred beauty and reverence.

Céline spent two weeks at Studio Zoe in New Jersey, working with producer Max Shrager (The Shacks, 54 Ultra). During this time, she composed and recorded a large body of new material, including collaborations with Sal Samano and Alex Garcia (Thee Sacred Souls). This creative period culminated in last month’s “Hödöö” EP and her “Selenge” single.

Céline Dessberg grew up between two distinct worlds—one shaped by the modern Western lifestyle of France, the other by the ancient traditions of Buddhism and the pastoral customs of Mongolia. This unique blend shaped her musical style, which draws from a wide array of influences, including jazz legends like Chet Baker, the eclectic sounds of David Byrne, and the traditional melodies of the Mongolian steppes.

Céline will be opening for Thee Sacred Souls at La Cigale in Paris on February 13th, 2025, and that day, the 45’s B-side, “Chintamani,” which evokes the spirit of the Mongolian countryside, as Céline’s vocals (sung in Mongolian) tell of ancient Buddhist treasure.

Céline’s sound is defined by her powerful, emotive voice and the haunting tones of her yatga that she plays alongside guitar and piano. This combination creates a sound that is both contemporary and timeless, merging the rich cultural heritage of Mongolia with modern indie and pop sensibilities. The inclusion of Mongolian, French, and English lyrics in her songs makes her music accessible to an international audience.

A captivating live performer, Céline has played everywhere from intimate jazz clubs around Europe to major festivals like Lollapalooza Paris. Céline is actively involved in cultural exchange work in the UK, where she organizes events for the Asian community. Her performances at the Fat Cat Jazz Club in Ulaanbaatar have also made her a prominent figure in the local Mongolian music scene.

That’s Love Records

That’s Love Records is an independent record label founded by Alejandro Garcia (Thee Sacred Souls) and Max Shrager (The Shacks) in 2024. Shrager was introduced to Garcia by Daptone founder Gabe Roth in Riverside, California, at one of Thee Sacred Soul’s first gigs in 2019.

The two formed a friendship and began recording together regularly during Shrager’s three-year stint as a resident of Los Angeles from 2020-2023. These collaborations led to releases including Bobby Oroza’s “Queen of the Barrio” b/w “Goddess” and several cuts on Las Los’ debut LP, as well as numerous as-of-yet unreleased instrumentals.

In 2023, Shrager linked up with fellow New Jersey native and Latin-Soul singer 54 Ultra. After producing the track “Heaven Knows” and playing it for Garcia, the two decided that the time was right to co-find the label that they had been brainstorming for a few years. Thus, That’s Love Records was born.
