sixten (@we.sixten formerly Strandels) is a duo from Sweden. Not too long ago, they released a sad indie-pop single, “Living Comes With Dying,” via TEN Records.
sixten – “Living Comes With Dying”
“Living Comes With Dying’” is an emotionally charged song inspired by a personal experience when a friend’s mother passed away from cancer last year. During a time when other subjects felt insignificant, the friend’s painful experience became a source of inspiration for the duo.
“We felt we couldn’t write about anything other than what our friends were going through,” sixten stated. “Other topics like love troubles, which we usually write about, became meaningless in comparison. ‘Living Comes With Dying’ is dedicated to those who have lost their dearest loved ones and serves as a reminder of the importance of continuing to support cancer research.”
“Living Comes With Dying” offers melancholic tones and arrangements reminiscent of The Police and Lana Del Rey. It is the fourth and final single from sixten’s upcoming EP, “Misemotional,” available in August 2024.
sixten – “Slip” single
Since their debut in 2016 with the EP “Chance of Rain” and their breakthrough in 2019 with the song “Slip,” sixten has firmly established themselves in the music world. ‘Slip’ has been streamed over 7 million times on Spotify, and their collective catalog has amassed over 15 million streams. In 2017, the duo embarked on a 13-date summer tour as the opening act for Per Gessle, and their career has continued to grow since then.
sixten – “Misemotional” (Official Music Video)
In the fall of 2023, sixten has been gearing up for their first EP release under the new name. In October, they released the title track “Misemotional,” followed by the country-tinged ballad “Ocean In Me” in November.
Earlier this year, they also released a beautiful rendition of Fleetwood Mac’s “Thrown Down” as a bonus between singles. Now, the time has come for the fourth and final single before the EP’s release in August.
sixten
sixten has placed music at the forefront of their entire career. With a love for the craft that is unusual in today’s music scene, they have allowed their musical expression to mature at its own pace – while also making room for detours when the songs have called for it. Perhaps that’s why their music sounds like future classics with a twist.
sixten makes music that is both confident and sophisticated while at the same time remaining unpretentious. With timeless melodies and heartfelt lyrics, they explore subjects like identity, love, and the ups and downs of life, weaving them together with well-crafted arrangements of acoustic guitars, piano, and harmonies. Their sound is pleasant and expressive but entirely lacks a need for attention. Therefore, sixten could indeed be one of Sweden’s best-kept pop secrets.
sixten is also unaffected by trends and has never wanted to compromise their sound for quick success or streams. Their music comes from creative freedom, joy in creation, and a desire to express themselves as sincerely and freely as possible.
