Sample Text (@sampletext.band) is a Northern alternative-indie-rock quartet. Not too long ago, they released an infectious yet melancholic single, “Aphrodite,” produced by Tim Malkin at Green Room Studios (Adult DVD, Japanese Television).

“Aphrodite” showcases Sample Text’s unique blend of heartfelt songwriting and rich, layered ‘70s-inspired soundscapes. Blending strummed acoustic guitars with subtle flecks of tremolo-tinted electrics, plucky bass, dappled glitches of synth, and shuffling drums, the instrumentation sets a whimsical tone under the yearning, fragile lead vocal.
Led by the melodic lead vocals, blended at points with soaring guest backing vocals courtesy of Natalie from the local band The Flying Circus, the single is infectiously catchy while retaining depth of subtlety and emotion.

“I wrote ‘Aphrodite’ just before lockdown when I was smitten with a girl that I’d been friends with for a long time, so it was like this scary confession. I imagined myself playing it at an open mic for her and it being a Disney film ending but it didn’t work out and the song took on this sort of sadness which I think a lot of people connect to.” – lead guitarist and writer, Jordan, explained
Having released their debut single in the summer of 2022, Sample Text has made significant strides in playing at beloved local venues and festivals across the UK. With a growing and dedicated fan base, the band has packed out well-known venues including Bootleg Social and The Jacaranda to name a couple. Now back with a flurry of new material, Sample Text is set to have their biggest year so far, cementing their place as ones to watch.
