Petit Biscuit is a multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter, and producer from Rouen, France. Not too long ago, he released a chill electronic tune, entitled, “Wide Awake”.
Petit Biscuit – “Wide Awake”
“The frontier between digital and real life is too thin in today’s world. We are all over-connected, over-informed, and we don’t care anymore about some real things. In this video, thought out with one of my strongest partners Quentin Deronzier from WOVE. We wanted to make people realize what is really important, what is real, and help people be themselves by remembering that border between those 2 different worlds.” – Petit Biscuit
The Quentin Deronzier- & Scott McPherson-directed audiovisual finds a computer-generated young man in a concealed room. Shortly afterward, the door opens and he is confronted with sunlight. In the following scene, he exits the room and explores the outside world.
‘Wide Awake’ blends chill electronic soundscapes with glitchy bass undertones to confront the impact between analog and digital.
Also, Biscuit’s delicate vocals are front and center as he not only explores the aforementioned conflict, but “how even a man that seemingly has no fear, simply hides it deep inside.”
“I wanted ‘Wide Awake’ to be a track that defies genres. It encompasses an audacious blend of my world music and chill universe, that ends up completely broken up by bass music… Like a relentless battle between nature and digital. The two parts I sing in it explain how even a man that seemingly has no fear, simply hides it deep inside.” – Petit Biscuit
Petit Biscuit, born Mehdi Benjelloun, has wowed audiences on the live circuit with performances at Coachella, Lollapalooza, and HARD.
His music has amassed over a half a billion streams online via Spotify. In 2018, he was awarded best live performer at the NRJ DJ Awards.
Also, he was awarded a national TV performance on the esteemed French music award ceremony, Les Victoires de la Musique 2018, and covered Phoenix’s “1901” on triple j’s essential Like A Version series.
Petit Biscuit – “Wide Awake” single
“Tonight I’m sleeping wide awake. I can’t promise we’ll be okay. But I’ll keep fighting ‘til the end to make you feel safe with me. To make you feel safe with me. I made the darkness sleep again to flee creatures from this land. We’re now safe but I can’t forget how hard I fear the end.” – Petit Biscuit
