“I’m drawing circles around the pages ‘cause nothing else is coming out. I write my name down in all the spaces and then I tear it out. Oh, I think I’m about to lose my mind. Every time I try to pull myself back to the light, end up where the sun doesn’t shine. Three strikes and I’m on my way again. Will I get it right? I’m holding on without a sign, lost sight of the finish line.” – lyrics

‘Three Strikes’ tells a heartfelt tale about a young woman who experiences a creative slump. Apparently, she’s slowly going insane but believes eventually she will hit a successful groove again.

‘Three Strikes’ contains a relatable narrative, ear-pleasing vocalization, and tuneful melodies that will resonate well with fans of Maggie Rogers, Chelsea Cutler, and Gracie Abrams. The bold and honest tune possesses guitar-laden instrumentation flavored with a contemporary pop vibration. Furthermore, “Three Strikes” serves as a tasty appetizer to what listeners can expect to hear from penelope Q in the near future.

“My friends keep calling but I’m underwater, and I can’t make a sound.”

“I wrote this one back in the fall with Becca Krueger and Will Saulsky during what felt like the biggest slump I’d ever been in. I wasn’t writing a ton, I felt so unsuccessful and jaded, and I was really struggling to believe in myself. This song is about that doubt and fear and all of the ugly intrusive thoughts the voice in your head throws at you. The ‘you’ll never make it’ and the ‘what are you trying to prove?’ As controlling as they can be, f*** ‘em all because who cares if you strike out, just keep stepping up to the plate.” penelope Q explained
