Mayer Hawthorne releases a groovy electro-soul single, entitled, “The Pool”

Mayer Hawthorne is a singer-songwriter and musician from Ann Arbor, Michigan. Not too long ago, he released a groovy electro-soul single, titled, “The Pool,” via P&L Records, his newly created independent label in partnership with Warner Music Group’s ADA Worldwide.

Mayer Hawthorne – “The Pool” single

“Let’s get hot, the devil ain’t got nothin’ on us. We get love from the sun everyone, rub a little lotion on it. Tropical vacation, catching rays by the shore. Frying like some bacon, we can’t take anymore. Oh no, I think I might explode. Then we’ll get real cool, cool in the water. Jump in and swim, wash all our sins away. Yeah, we’ll get real cool in the pool, reach nirvana. Smoke in the air, back to the beach chair.” – lyrics

From swirling smoke-filled air to moments of introspective bliss, “The Pool” guides you toward transcendence. Written and produced entirely by Hawthorne, this song is where rebelliousness and carefree living intertwine, inviting you to embrace the thrill of psychedelic adventures. Feel the warmth of the sun on your skin as you indulge in refreshing and blissful moments. Mayer Hawthorne sings, “Let’s get hot, steamin’ like an ocean liner. It’s a hundred degrees in the shade, Carolina reaper fire.”

Unlike most artists who polish their sound as they mature, Mayer Hawthorne takes a refreshing detour and goes against the grain with his first release since 2020. While this new single is psychedelic and ventures into new sonic landscapes, Hawthorne’s signature sound is still constant.

“I wanted this song to feel dangerous. Like you’re screaming down a hot desert road on a Harley, high on mushrooms and you might lose control.” – Mayer Hawthorne explained

Mayer Hawthorne has penned every word of his extensive catalog, including four full-length albums over the past 13 years, much of which has become the soundtrack to countless relationships. Hawthorne, who began his career by making rap beats and DJing near his Michigan hometown at the height of Detroit hip-hop, also handles the lion’s share of production and plays nearly every instrument on his records.

Hawthorne’s previous releases run the gamut of record labels from legendary indies like Stones Throw Records, to the biggest of major labels like Republic Records. After the release of his last album, “Man About Town,” on Vagrant Records in 2016, and touring extensively until the beginning of the pandemic, Hawthorne launched the next phase of his career as a producer and writer for fellow artists. The first song to come out as a part of this venture is called “Options (feat. JID)” from one of the biggest records of 2021, Doja Cat’s “Planet Her.” Hawthorne earned his second GRAMMY nomination (his first as a producer) for this work.
