Marina Bloom releases a therapeutic indie-world tune, entitled, “Flying”

Marina Bloom is a New Zealand-based singer-songwriter from Russia. Not too long ago, she released a therapeutic indie-world tune, entitled, “Flying”.

“I’m afraid of flying, I’m afraid of love, I’m afraid one day this world will swallow me up. I’m afraid of liberty, I’m afraid of chains, I’m afraid reality is not all that it seems. And I’m afraid all my best-laid plans will leave me stranded in no man’s land.” – lyrics

‘Flying’ tells an interesting tale of a woman who believes her best days have come and gone. Apparently, she has lots of fears which are holding her back.

Later, she admits that the woman she sees in the mirror no longer looks like her. Therefore, she feels lost and needs guidance back home. But in order to reach that far-away destination, she must fly there even though she’s afraid of flying.

‘Flying’ contains a relatable storyline, ear-welcoming vocals, and lush instrumentation flavored with indie-pop, alternative-rock, and worship elements.

“The subject matter is about doubting yourself and holding yourself back from your true awesome potential. When Michael (Davis, the lyricist) showed me the lyrics I heard the chorus melody in my head straight away. Then working with Carl (Benton, the arranger) to get a full sound, it got very epic, very fast! Making music is about who you work with. My melodies are always amplified by the music that supports it.” – Marina Bloom

Marina Bloom has played at Auckland Town Hall, The Kings Arms, Kapiti Coast Winery, The Vic Devonport, and Summer festivals up and down the country.

The bubbly singer sings in two languages–English and Russian– and loves to perform as lead vocalist with the Russian-language choir Singing Nations.

The theme for her “Flying” single was inspired by the 1973 novel ‘Fear of Flying’ by Erica Jong, hailed for its contribution to second-wave feminism.
