lil cat releases an introspective, Halloween-themed single, entitled, “Monster”

lil cat (Cathrine van Leeuwen and Mads Vadsager) is a music duo based in Denmark. Not too long ago, they released an introspective, Halloween-themed single, titled, “Monster.”

“For us, ‘Monster’ is a song about all the issues and anxieties that you keep hidden behind a mask (or a Halloween mask to keep things seasonal). It can be terrifying to share what’s going on below the surface, even with family or friends. But at some point, that’s the only way you’re going to overcome those demons.” – lil cat explained

The relatable tune’s production style seems to sync up with lil cat’s previous releases. The band doubles down on the seasonal theme by using filtered vocals and textures in the background to give the song an eerie ambiance.

lil cat came together because of pure boredom and an exceptional amount of unutilized talent. Since then, they have garnered hundreds of thousands of streams on DSPs while gaining local and international media attention.

lil cat represents the in-betweeners. The duo exists somewhere between pop and rock music, naivety and seriousness, and confident rock stars and shy homebodies. They stay true to who they are and try not to be overwhelmed by the expectations and pressures of society.

lil cat has spent a lot of time and energy wondering how to fit in. This need to belong is the main source of inspiration for their music, which is best described as party music for benchwarmers. They make music for people who openly choose crocs over stilettos and prefer to party at home rather than go clubbing. Their songs are raw, fun, and filled with distorted guitars and catchy choruses referencing both 2000s rock and modern pop.

lil cat has released two EPs since they began making music; their debut EP, “tunes,” followed by their sophomore EP, “czech new wave.” Cathrine and Mads are unstoppable when it comes to writing music, and the songs on their forthcoming debut album were hand-picked from an enormous bunch of demos. Over the past two years in quarantine, they have dedicated themselves to their craft, making several tracks and collaborating with artists like Reveal Party, Kamma, and Liberty, as well as songwriters from all over Scandinavia.
