“I wanted this video to feel uplifting and have a summer vibe to it. A chance for people to watch and have three minutes of fun and forget about their troubles. I love shooting one shot videos, there’s something about them that brings you into the life of the artist for a brief period of time. It was so much fun to shoot.” – Lauren Housley explained

‘This Ain’t the Life’ tells a heartfelt tale about a woman who desires to live a better life than the one she is currently living. Apparently, she believes there’s another life out there for her that she hasn’t experienced yet. Later, she admits that the Earth is moving at a moderate pace but somehow she feels stuck in the same place. Therefore, every day, she dreams about a new life and searches for new ways of changing her current life into what she wants it to be.

‘This Ain’t the Life’ contains a relatable narrative, ear-pleasing vocals, and tuneful melodies that will resonate well with fans of Lake Street Dive, Yola, and Margo Price. The vintage-pop tune possesses vibrant instrumentation flavored with a jazzy retro-pop aroma.

“To move forward we sometimes have to go back. I wanted to prove to myself that it doesn’t matter where you are in the world, you can make great music.” – Lauren Housley explained

‘This Ain’t the Life’ sounds like the Ronettes met Sam Cooke at a swinging party. Or the Beach Boys turning up to spin some cool Atlantic 45s. In other words, it’s exactly the kind of feel-good moment we need right now. Also, “This Ain’t the Life” is a reminder that music can get us through anything.

Furthermore, “This Ain’t the Life” serves as a fantastic presentation of what listeners can expect to hear on Lauren Housley’s eagerly-awaited third album, entitled, “Girl from the North,” available on April 23, 2021. The full set was recorded with husband and longtime collaborator, Thomas Dibb, in a basement studio in Rotherham, South Yorkshire.

“It was like magic to me, that music could have such an impact on the way I felt. It became my therapy. Being a deeply empathetic person led me to channel my emotions into poems and songs, with a hope that they would bring some comfort, joy, and understanding to people.” – Lauren Housley stated

It’s not often you get an artist who combines the irresistible hooks and dynamite vocals of classic pop with 100% respect for the roots and Americana world. Lauren Housley is that British treasure. Not too long ago, she was invited to perform at the 02 Arena in London as part of Bluesfest. Also, she has opened for Vintage Trouble, Jack Savoretti, and Van Morrison. Furthermore, she has performed with some of her favorite female contemporaries including Yola and Klara Soderberg (First Aid Kit).

“Wait to see what tomorrow brings, but every day is just the same old thing. They tell you that you’ll be alright, while you’re working every day and night. I’ve been thinking that this ain’t the life for me. Pack your bags and you go away, make the most of every single day. Before you know it you’ll be back at home. Lock the door and then you’re all alone. Wish your life away until it’s time to go.” – lyrics
