Exploring LAUREL’s Euphoric Dance Pop Single, “45 Degrees”

LAUREL (@classiclaurel) is a British-born, LA-based singer-songwriter. Not too long ago, she released a music video for her euphoric dance-pop single, “45 Degrees,” via Communion Records.

The title “45 Degrees” is in Celsius, not Fahrenheit, and radiates a swimmingly summery feel. LAUREL’s airy vocals and carefree lyricism perfectly embody the warmth of sun-drenched days. Written the day after her engagement in the south of France, the single encapsulates feelings of love and euphoria in a polished pop anthem.

Speaking about the inspiration behind her latest release, LAUREL stated: “The love you feel is so deep, yet the life you live in this love is lighthearted, heady, euphoric, and youthful. It sends you crazy when you are not near them, they are the one that can cool you down like a breeze on a summer’s day. They are the cure, yet they are also the sickness.”

The accompanying music video, co-directed by LAUREL and Elliott Arndt, follows the singer on a journey across the scenic coast basking in sunsets and dancing on beaches in dreamy, hazy visuals and pure summertime bliss. “45 Degrees” was lifted from LAUREL’s upcoming studio album “PALPITATIONS,” due for release on the 14th of June 2024.

PALPITATIONS is a reinvention of epic proportions – a full-throated reintroduction to a musician who has, to this point, been known for windswept pop and grunge-inflected folk. Bright, passionate, and reckless in its pursuit of emotional truth, it’s the work of a mature songwriter with a restless spirit: LAUREL in her final form.

Contained in these 11 songs are all of life’s highs and lows, coated in gleaming ‘80s lacquer and shot through with tension and ecstasy. All you need to know about this new iteration of LAUREL is contained right in the album title:

“This album is adrenaline-filled – everything is felt hard,” LAUREL stated. “Palpitations, in the body, aren’t usually a sign of anything really bad – they’re usually emotionally driven. I loved the idea that something can feel so strong that it will make your heart skip a beat.”

LAUREL recently announced her first UK and EU headline tour since 2018, marking her highly anticipated return to the stage, following her triumphant sold-out intimate showcase at Hackney’s Oslo earlier this year.

The tour will kick off on October 20th at G2 in Glasgow, followed by performances at Academy 3 in Manchester on October 21st, before arriving at the iconic KOKO, London on October 22nd. The UK dates are followed by a run of EU shows across Amsterdam, Paris, Antwerp, Cologne, and Berlin. You can visit LAUREL’s official store or buy tickets via Tickemaster.com to see LAUREL perform LIVE in the U.K.

Coming in hot on the heels of a sold-out show celebrating her new creative era at London’s Oslo and the release of “Wild Things” last February, LAUREL has already seen immense support from BBC Radio 1 Future Pop and Future Artists and Australia’s Triple J. 2024 is gearing up for what promises to be an unforgettable year for LAUREL – a moment when she’ll finally step up to the pop throne.
