“While drag is seemingly everywhere right now, I appreciate Kelsey taking a chance on a big, bearded, camp drag queen. To me, the song’s lyrics read like someone talking themselves into being the fullest, most gorgeous, and most authentic version of themselves. Drag queens, LGBT+ folks, straight folks (really everyone) can relate to searching to find this boost of confidence within.” – Chris Purcell

An avid supporter of the LGBT+ community, Kelsey Waters proposes an extension to Pride Month.

The Sarah Holbrook-directed audiovisual stars Anita Coxx, a plus-sized, over-educated, camp drag queen from East Nashville.

The video follows Chris Purcell as he begins his day as the world’s okayest teacher. At night, he dresses up into his alter-ego, Anita, and strips down to simple clothes and electric guitar.

“The core message of what I wanted this video to represent is that it’s okay to be your true, authentic self… no matter who that is. At the end of the day, we are all fighting to love ourselves and break out of whatever shell society has built around us. That commonality should bring us together. Chris (Anita Coxx) and I’s roles in the video was our attempt at conveying that. I have been and continue to be an avid supporter of the LGBT+ community and I watch so many of my friends struggle with acceptance. If I can play my part in helping to shine a light on that, I will.” – Kelsey Waters

Kelsey Waters has saved her best work for her reimagined music career, which spans over a decade.

She has carefully rolled out her life story into a batch of dark tunes inspired by electric, rock & roll, and pop.

Her musical influences include Sheryl Crow, Joan Osborne, Fiona Apple, David Bowie, Led Zeppelin, and the Beatles.

Also, Waters is a clear-cut songwriter who tells interesting stories about her darker side, addiction, heartbreak, and sexual desire.

“Pretty as a picture, a genuine pretender. Keeping it together with glitter and mascara. I can’t talk the talk, I can’t walk the walk, Mirror, mirror on the wall,  who’s gonna fall, who’s gonna fall? You got this? Or are you gonna let it go?” – lyrics

‘You Got This’ contains a relatable storyline, ear-welcoming vocals, and guitar-fueled instrumentation scented with a muggy alternative-pop aroma.
