Jackson Sutherland – “Afraid to Love” single

“‘Afraid to Love’ was written after the end of a significant, and long, relationship in my life. Meeting other people afterwards, I felt like I was completely relearning how to have a meaningful relationship. It was so brutal. Something my loved ones know about me is that I excessively analyze my own life and choices, and what everything means, constantly.” – Jackson Sutherland

‘Afraid to Love’ tells an interesting tale of a vulnerable young guy who fears the consequences of being in love with a female who he desires to be with.

Apparently, while in Brooklyn, he worries about her wellbeing, but the thought of them being together in a relationship scares him.

Later, he decides to follow his heart. When he meets her, he asks if she can be careful with his delicate heart.

‘Afraid to Love’ contains a relatable storyline, ear-welcoming vocals, and spirited instrumentation flavored with indie pop, alternative, and worship elements.

“Realizing you’re getting very close with someone you’ve only known a short while is fun and exciting. But it can be a total nightmare if you’re an objectively skeptical person. So this song comes out of this place of ‘I think you’re amazing, but I’m terrified.’ Writing it was something I had to do out of emotional necessity. I couldn’t ignore it anymore, I had to just admit to myself that I was hurt and scared. I hope people who listen to it feel comfortable going to that same state of mind, if they need a safe release from it.” – Jackson Sutherland
