Dylan Matthew releases a hard-to-forget breakup song, entitled, “Proud of Me”

Dylan Matthew (@dylanmatthew) is a Platinum-selling singer-songwriter from Southern California. Not too long ago, he released a hard-to-forget breakup song, titled, “Proud of Me,” via The Hard Working Record Company.

‘Proud of Me’ finds Dylan Matthew singing about relationship drama. Packed with self-assured lyrics and synth-soaked, upbeat production, the song sees the Platinum-selling artist at his most cutthroat, pushing back at an ex who says she’s proud of him for moving on. “I don’t want to hear it from you, baby,” he tells her. “You tell me that you love me, but you don’t.”

Now, seven years after his debut, Dylan Matthew is embracing a new chapter of his history — one that was born amid an intense and tumultuous break-up that forced him to disconnect from the life he knew, look inward, and rebuild his future.

At the center of Dylan’s personal journey is “Proud of Me,” which contains ear-pleasing vocals, tuneful melodies, and a relationship–based drama that will surely resonate with anyone who finds it hard to forget an ex-partner who left them for dead. The song possesses new upbeat, synth-laden instrumentation flavored with a neat contemporary pop vibration. “It’s almost criminal the way that you pretend to care the most,” Dylan Matthew sings, after admitting that he still wears the t-shirt that his ex-partner purchased for him online on the Internet.

“Ain’t my fault that you are sleeping alone.”

“‘Proud Of Me’ was a song I wrote before I even moved to LA after my breakup. It was a transitional period of my life where I was trying to live life a little more, grow from what I went through, and come back to life by figuring out who I am. After a while, my ex realized I was doing much better, and she told me that she was proud of me — which was something she said out of guilt or shame for what she did to me. She wanted me to be sad and mope without her. Instead, I wrote a song about being proud of the changes and growth I’ve had since our break-up.” – Dylan Matthew explained

Equal parts vulnerable and assured, “Proud of Me” establishes Dylan Matthew as an artist with a deft touch that crafts powerful indie pop-infused music while honoring his greatest strength — telling his story through universal narratives tied together with introspective and infectious lyricism. It’s music that is primed to fully present Dylan at his best: an artist who, at his core, creates music that helps his listeners find hope.

For Dylan Matthew, everything comes back to storytelling. He began harnessing his love of music before he could speak— a love that would eventually push a then-18-year-old Dylan to publish covers and original songs online. Following his 2016 inaugural EP, “Over You,” listeners would see Dylan go from strength to strength. He scored his first Platinum-certified single with the viral dance hit “Love Is Gone,” garnered millions of Spotify listeners and over 750K feverish TikTok followers, and awed crowds while performing at Coachella, Lollapalooza, and a sold-out headline show at Avalon Hollywood in LA, his proudest moment to date.

Catch Dylan on the road this fall as he launches his headlining no rain, no flowers tour in September, with special guests Rachel Grae and Caleb Hearn opening on select dates. For all stops and additional information, visit dylanmatthew.com.
