“Say you’re sorry but it’s clearly halfhearted that you never meant to f*** up our friendship. Well, you sure got a funny way to show it, show it now. I called you crying, had my head on your shoulder. You kept telling me I had to find closure. Was that a way for you to get the leftovers? I mean I get it, you can’t help the way you’re feeling. I just hope it’s worth it when it’s all gone.” – lyrics

‘Don’t Sleep With My Ex’ tells an intriguing tale about a young woman who recently suffered a messy breakup with her significant other. Alone and frustrated, she finds herself on the wrong side of forbidden love. And even more disturbing, her ex and best friend have become a couple behind her back – while she is trying her best to move on.

“Look good together ‘cause the two of you are broken.”

“I was a ticking bomb when I came to the studio that day and all of my anger and confusion just exploded into this song. It’s not about me hating on someone’s relationship, but rather about feeling betrayed by a close friend. Whenever I’m wondering if I’m exaggerating and being petty about two people finding love, I go back and listen to this song. It makes me remember that some things you might not be able to forgive, and that’s okay.” – Cy explained

‘Don’t Sleep With My Ex’ contains a post-relationship-based narrative, pleasing vocals, and sweet melodies. The dramatic tune possesses guitar-driven instrumentation flavored with a punkish pop vibration. Furthermore, “Don’t Sleep With My Ex” follows hot on the heels of Cy’s critically acclaimed debut single, My Name Next To Yours, which landed at #2 on Spotify’s Fresh Finds playlist.

“Finding another lost soul won’t make you whole again.”

“I’m so happy that you found another. Yeah, you really do deserve each other. And I mean that in the worst way. I forgive but I never forget. Who you’re with when you’re laying in bed. No wonder that the two of you’d end up like lovers. I don’t mean that in a good way. Wish you luck, ‘cause it’s all for the best. Don’t hit me up when there’s nobody left. I don’t ask for much, from a wreck. Just don’t go sleep with my ex.” – lyrics

‘Don’t Sleep With My Ex’ was written in Stockholm by Cy, together with Richard Zastenker and Johannes Klahr, who received a 2020 Grammy nomination for Lady Gaga’s Chromatica.
