Chloe Florence releases a lovely electro-pop tune, entitled, “Ego Pleaser”

Chloe Florence is a singer-songwriter from Montreal, Canada. Not too long ago, she released a lovely electro-pop tune, entitled, “Ego Pleaser.”

Chloe Florence – “Ego Pleaser” single

“Soul sick with a fever in my head, but I won’t grieve her ‘cause I know she’s already dead. Don’t you hate it when she puts up a fight, wakes you up in the middle of the night when you’re just tryna sleep the demons off your mind? Why does she keep telling them where they can hide? And, I’m so sick and tired of trying, lying to myself to keep the surface smiling. I don’t think you’ll ever see me crying. Tears are made of gold, baby, yeah, that sh*t is priceless.” – lyrics

‘Ego Pleaser’ is about struggling to find the balance between the needs of one’s ego and one’s soul. The song follows a Chloe Florence-developed character who is fearful of being vulnerable that she cannot open herself up to anyone. Furthermore, “Ego Pleaser” is the title track of Florence’s debut EP.

“I wanna deceive, want you to believe that what you see is me. And I’ll never be what you want me to be ‘cause I’m an egomaniac.”

“An ego pleaser is someone who succumbs to the insatiable desires of their ego at the expense of their soul. It’s so easy to get caught up in your appearance and social status when the image you present of yourself online is primed and perfected. Rather than focusing on inner growth, you can deceive yourself into a fake sense of confidence.” – Chloe Florence explained

Chloe Florence was raised in a musical family. Many of her paternal family sang, played multiple instruments, belonged to bands, and worked in Vaudeville. Her natural ability to visualize a song both instrumentally and lyrically is something her great-grandmother excelled at. Add in the vagabond spice of a Gypsy great-aunt and it’s easy to understand Chloe’s ability to story-tell through music, an art she uses to communicate the highs and lows of her life.

The timbre of Chloe’s voice evokes the jazz and blues greats of the ‘40s. Yet, she is able to translate this sound into music that crosses the R&B and pop genres. Chloe takes inspiration from many greats from the ‘70s like Stevie Nicks and Patti Smith to the smooth and original sounds of current artists like Lana Del Rey.
