ORKID (@itsorkid) is an artist based in Stockholm, Sweden. Not too long ago, she released an indie-pop single, “Where Flowers Grow,” featuring co-writer Lew, whose raw, emotive voice transforms the track into something more profound. Evidencing a range of songwriting capabilities, the song is the title track of ORKID’s upcoming EP, WHERE FLOWERS GROW, which is set to become one of the more impactful releases for the year ahead.
ORKID & Lew – “Where Flowers Grow” single
“Where Flowers Grow” is a testament to ORKID’s evolving artistry. The grief-laden song first came to life after ORKID visited her mother’s grave which spawned the lyric where flowers grow. The new single perfectly mirrors the “blend of beauty and sadness” ORKID perceives about such an experience. “Where Flowers Grow” is a melancholic indie track with a tremolo-drenched guitar echoing in the background.
“My mom’s grave is the one place where I feel closest to her and can sense her presence. Even though she’s the one lying beneath the earth, it feels like a huge part of me is also buried with her,” ORKID explained. “We wanted this song to resonate with anyone who deeply misses someone. ‘Where flowers grow’ can symbolize a person or a place, but at its heart, the song is about not being alone in that longing.”
“Where Flowers Grow” follows on the heels of ORKID’s “Bed of Roses” single. Her upcoming EP is a testament to her late mother and the aesthetic behind the custom-made eye patch with the three hearts printed on match up to a pledge in ink between the pair.
ORKID & Lew – “Where Flowers Grow” single
ORKID, a lover of pickles and mackerel from Sweden’s far North, continues to soar and amaze with a series of singles released so far. Now living in the modern pop hub of Stockholm, but also recalls classic legendary singer-songwriters like Nat King Cole and Sam Cooke as her early influences. Personifying quintessential Swedish indie-pop, it’s hard not to fall for her brand of velvet, soulful, fragile yet commanding vocals making her one of her homeland’s more exciting artist exports to watch.
