On a mission to prove herself as an artist to watch, “Owo” is yet another stand-out single from Abi Jenaé. Tapping in at just under three minutes long, the song is an unapologetic release that explores the financial freedom that comes with having money. It’s an anthem for the hustler community! Emphasizing the lack of problems when being able to live her best life, the rhythmic production and musical composition enable Abi to glaze her infectious lyrics and vocals with ease.

Dipping in and out of the English and Yoruba language, Abi commented, “‘Owo’ means ‘money’ in my Yoruba language, and ‘mo fe owo’ means ‘I want money.’ So, it is a song about wanting money.” Furthermore, “Owo” follows mildly on the heels of Abi Jenaé’s previous single, “Empire,” building her supporters up for the release of her forthcoming EP, “Love & Hustle.”

“When I wrote the track, I was inspired by an old school song called “Mo Money Mo Problems,” by The Notorious B.I.G. (aka Biggie) and Bad Boy Records. However, with my song, ‘Owo,’ I was more optimistic about having more money and no problems! This is what people in the world can relate to. When I was writing the lyrics, I laid a foundation of love, power, and ambition to add to the main topic of money. The song has a fun, laid-back, cool vibe to it. It depicts the lifestyle of a real-life hustler in the midst of the challenges and financial struggles in life.” – Abi Jenaé explained

Abi Jenaé resides in both London and Lekki, Lagos. She grew up listening to a wide variety of genres including rap, hip-hop, grime, R&B, and Afrobeat, before transitioning into Afrobeats. Abi took a particular liking to artists such as Aaliyah, Mary J. Blige, Nicki Minaj, Slick Rick, Lil Kim, Jay-Z, and many more.
