TYA – “island” Single

“island” encapsulates a profound exploration of love and vulnerability. The lyrics convey feelings of desire and longing, as expressed in the poignant line, ‘Are you real, too good to be true? Tell me what I did to deserve you.’ This introspective questioning resonates with anyone who has experienced the complexities of romantic relationships.
A recurring theme in “island” is the importance of honesty in love. TYA reminds us that genuine connections thrive when both partners are open about their feelings. Lines like ‘I know you don’t play no games with me, I know what you gave me honesty,’ feature prominently, emphasizing the need for transparency in a relationship. This thoughtful approach helps listeners connect deeply with the song.
The chorus strikes a chord with many, portraying the joy and euphoric surprises that love can bring. Phrases such as ‘You got me writing love songs, I don’t know what’s happening’ and ‘Your love feels like an island’ invoke vivid imagery that illustrates love’s transformative power. The metaphor of an island serves as an emblem of safety and serenity, creating a perfect backdrop for the thematic essence of the song.

In her own words, TYA explains, “‘island’ is about finding peace and comfort in love after being used to heartbreak. I wrote it for my boyfriend. His love feels like a calm island, something I’d never experienced before. The song captures that rare feeling of safety and joy when you finally meet someone who feels like home.”
Overall, “island” stands for the emotional truth that lies within its lyrics. This song reinforces the idea that love can indeed feel like a sanctuary, inviting us to embrace honesty and vulnerability with open hearts.
About TYA

TYA (pronounced tee-ya) has spent the last few years crafting her sound and writing countless melodies and lyrics. Immigrating to NYC as a 5-year-old in the early 2000s, you could hear her singing R&B and Pop-inspired tunes on the 4 train daily. She knew her love for music was her drive in life from an early age, and spent the next 10 years singing in a choir tied to her Bulgarian roots.
TYA started to take private vocal lessons at the age of 11 and was accepted to LaGuardia High School of Performing Arts, where she continued her classical training. She took a new path in college and decided to go to business school, where her entrepreneurial strengths and grit allowed her to pursue a corporate career in tech. Soon enough, she found herself longing for music, and it quickly became evident to her adult self that she had strayed from her ultimate passion in life.
TYA took all of the lessons she learned from business school, as well as her work in the tech field, and applied them with full force into her music career. She hopes to bring love, healing, and lots of relatable feelings into the world with her music. She also wants to inspire others with a similar story to do the same. It is never too late to go after your calling.
